I can not describe how much I love this game!!!!!!

Like the way they authentically show teenagers  is just top notch!!!

Highly recommend<33

(+6)

Interesting game. I like how the kids feel their age, specially in the flashbacks.

(+8)

I really loved this game. I wish in my country they were more open-minded and I could have come out as lesbian sooner, to enjoy my teen years like they do in the game. But, I just came out at 22 yo. This game made me feel pretty things and I replayed it. Also recomended it to my gf <3 Thank you for this amazing game, Brianna!

LOVE this. Characters; fun, fresh, with unique, fashionable designs, personalities more than entertaining. The atmosphere and music?  Neat symbolism? Check. The memes? Amazing. More than solid.

Overall, this game never overstayed a welcome (I wish there was more! But alas...) and was everything my lesbian heart wanted and beyond. I found the "texting" parts of the game to genuinely be accurate to my friends and I. And I also laughed at loud more than a few times; something media often doesn't often achieve! The art files made me appreciate the game more after finishing it with a smile on my face (or something like it). Looking forward to the possibility of any new game; regardless if it's connected to the cycle that is Butterfly Soup.

I am an avid visual novel player and have to say, this one knocked it out of the park!

I have played this midst of a pandemic, I got bored, and I also forgot the name of this game. Good thing the game is still in my storage. It made me realize that I'm really gay lol. Wishing for a sequel in the future. Thank you for making this and I really love it.

(+3)

A sequel is apparently in the works, but way over the gived deadline. Maybe the creator is a bit burned out? Not sure...

i love this game so much i hope you'll make a sequel one day

(+4)

this game was a really positive influence on me back in my gap year and still affects me to this day. the asian experience, academic pressure, being queer. i'm so thankful that this game was made. thank you

(+3)

Hey, I love it! I am a gay girl... I don't play baseball but I like it. If you let me, I would love to translate it into spanish, I'm a native speaker. For free, of course. Like to thank you for this amazing game <3

(1 edit)

Hey! Brianna isn’t doing new translations (unfortunately), but we (Queerscriptors) could really need some help. We already have some of the game translated, but there isn’t much work being done on it: https://littleroot.net/weblate/projects/butterfly-soup/translations/es/. Plus, it isn’t limited to spanish, we finished french not too long ago (can be downloaded here)

We also have a discord: https://discord.gg/tzbXdkxWYF

played this visual novel some years ago and loved it. was thinking about it lately so i started a new game. my memory is quite poor so when i re-experience things, sometimes its like i am for the first time again! i am not even though it all yet but i am having so much fun, laughing and crying. its so funny yet also so meaningful, and there are definitely parts that make me very emotional. i love this so much and im sure ill keep coming back to it. i think ill get the art book too, i just really love all these characters ! i relate to a lot of them in different ways. thank you for a very well made queer visual novel~

(1 edit) (+5)(-10)

just need to say something really quick and i hope brianna lei can see this: hi! im an asian lesbian and i really really love your game and it completely changed my life and it's probably one of my favorite things ever that's going to stick with me for a long time. it's probably saved my life, actually, but something that's been really bothering me is how akarsha uses AAVE sometimes when she's speaking, for ex. in the auditorium with the word "deadass" and i believe the text where she refers to diya as min's ex the word "lowkey" was also used. im sure that since this game was released in 2017 and some internet lingo hasn't revealed or talked about as appropriated AAVE that it wasn't your intention but it's really uncomfortable to see a non-black character use AAVE in this way, especially with the situation with awkwafina, so i was wondering if it won't be too much work to change some of the dialogue containing these terms?? no pressure at all! i love akarsha a lot (shes my favorite haha) and these are just a little bit a nitpicky thing i had about the game. im very much looking forward to anything you create next!! (im sure ill weep real tears anytime you release something new lolololol bc reiterating what i said earlier butterfly soup really changed my life ive never felt so seen as a nonbinary lesbian asian)

(+1)(-3)

!!idk if this will help your comment get attention but i agree!! im white so i dont want to speak on something that is a black issue so will just leave it at that <3

(+4)

Hi! I just wanted to say that I agree with your critique of the AAVE usage -- you're being very charitable assuming people weren't talking about AAVE appropriation back in 2017, but they were and I was just ignorant! It's something I regret and would do differently if I were making the game today (among other things like using less ableist language).

Unfortunately because of all the translations that are tied to the lines of text in the game, it's very easy for me to accidentally break it even by making small changes like this. But I'll be more mindful of these issues in my future games, and do my best to keep improving as an artist and a person. I hope you understand!

(1 edit) (+22)

As an actual  Black person, this is a complete non-issue.  There's so much more to Black culture that quirky phrases and we celebrate when things we use and love permeate into other cultures.  I wish Black beauty standards, music, fashion, and role models ingrain themselves into more and more communities across the world.  They deserve to be shared.  This is not to be conflated with cultural appropriation--as that just muddies the water of the harm of actual appropriation.

It's frustrating when other other well-meaning groups outside of black culture "speak" on our behalf.  We don't want Akarsha to speak any differently--honestly, that's neither on my radar AND is a simultaneously thing that I love about Akarsha's personality.  Black folks ultimately just want the same thing we have always been asking for: respect and to be regarded as fellow human beings.  That's always been it.

If someone out there really wants to protect and offer something to  Black community, how about this?--stop referring to us (even through abbreviations) as African Americans.  Honestly, it's 2022.  We're Black.  Charlize Theron is African American.  Brii, you're good, don't change a thing.

Loved this game when I was younger, played it again and still loved it, such a cute game!

Cara, esse jogo é literalmente perfeito, cheguei a chorar muito e dar gargalhadas jogando. Com certeza virou um dos meus jogos favoritos.

Interesting concept and okay art style, but the character designs are atrocious.

i just made an account to say how much i fucking adored this game. criminally underrated. ive been playing since mid 2020 and its probably one of my favorites ever. the representation is amazing and the characters are so memorable, i love their dynamic so much and i come back to play again every once in a while. was kicking my feet back and forth and giggling the first time and i still do now when i replay it. if ur debating whether you want to download this or not get it RIGHT NOW immediately i promise you wont regret it. so so exited for the sequel

(+4)

I've been playing butterfly soup over & over since early 2017, and have enjoyed it every time. I've finally decided to leave a review saying that this game will be forever incredible.

(+3)

I can remember the first time I heard about Butterfly Soup around 4 years ago. For some reason or another, never got around to playing it until today.

Despite being late to the party, I'm glad I finally played it. It's a story drenched in nostalgia with characters that feel very well-developed and human throughout. The changing perspectives allows the player to delve into each character, with each one getting their own chance in the spotlight. I wasn't sure if the humor would hold up after this long but it's great even in 2022. The nods to Pom Gets Wi-Fi were a nice treat too.

If you stumble upon this game, give it a shot. It's an experience that will stick with you for a long time.

it wont open, completely downloaded, on mac, no warning just wont open,,

i had this problem for a while- but i got the itch io app and now i can download games through it with no problems :) (probably something about the games not running through the security stuff?)

(+1)

Just played through it bcs of a tiktok recommending it. Loved it, super cute, left feeling very nostalgic for middle school.

(+1)

i binged this game with no breaks and, oh my god, it is the most amazing thing ever ive fallen in love :0

this was so funny and sweet and i am so sad its over <3

isn't there gonna be a sequel hopefully in a while?

i hope so! im not really sure

(+1)

Really good.

(+3)

Legitimately funny, honest, deep and entertaining with very fleshed-out characters. I love that the story switches the point of view between the four main characters. I played this all in one sitting and even laughed out loud a handful of times, credit to Akarsha hehe. Noelle is my favourite though, I found myself liking her more and more as time went on. Highly recommend to everyone, even if you are not Asian, which I am not. You will enjoy this.

(+1)

I saw Gloom play this and I really enjoyed it. I love gay things lol.

(+2)

I ADORED this game. It’s one of those games where i’ll come back from time-to-time just to play it all over again or watch someone play it. : ) Quick question tho, did the sequel ever come out ? i heard it was supposed to come out summer of 2019, which was a while ago,  but just wondering if it ever actually did.  : )

(+1)

I should've commented here way sooner lol. I played this game a long time ago and until this day, it remains as one of my all time favorites. The characters are relatable and the story hits close to home, on top of that the art is amazing! My favorite is Akarsha but Diya is a close second. This game gives me so much comfort, 100/10 <3

could you possibly port this game to android? i know its potentially time consuming of a process but im just curious is all..

there's a fanmade android port! it's linked on the page

alright! cool!!!!! that is actually really pleasant to know

(+1)

why did noelle's mom sounds like parents? i don't see simulation in the tags list.

available in indonesian huh, that don't usually happens for this kind of games

i found this game thru a creator a while ago and just downloaded it so i can max out all of the options and stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 great game!!!!!!!!

BUTTERFLYYY SOUUPPP

10/10,will play again...

I just realized,if you put the first letter in their names together,Diya,Akarsya,Min and Noelle in that order,it will become DAMN.

And after Noelle messed up,Akarsya picks up a dandelion, looks at Noelle and said "If you were a flower, you'd be a DAMNdelion"

Then she tried to blow the dandelion seeds into Noelle's eyes...

this won't open on my computer anymore D:

I know I'm like 4 years late to the party, but I just had to share how this was love at first sight for me. I was looking for another lgbtq+ visual novel to record and this one grabbed me from the beginning. As a lesbian Filipina myself, my heart was so happy to see the representation, and that's just from playing the beginning. Definitely keeping an eye out for the next one. Keep up the amazing work!
