if you told my 15 year old self two years ago about a sequel to the butterfly soup game, she would've gone ballistic. thank you for giving us 2 butterfly 2 soup
The original Butterfly Soup is one of my favourite VNs of all time, and I was so glad to see these characters again. Thank you for blessing us with more of it.
I sent you a lot of personal feedback on many details but what I will say in a public space here is that your characters continue to be utterly charming and hilarious. I just never laugh so much and with such frequency at games like I have these two title. Your ability to use the visual novel medium to capitalize on humanistic 'cringe' humor is delightful.
Beautiful game, loved the first one and loved this one too. I really liked that it digs a lot of important themes (I'd say do read the warnings before hand) and it was overall very interesting and fun as always. The writing is really clever.
The characters are deeply explored and we can see a lot of their vulnerable sides which I really appreciated and seeing them talk about their difficulties and how they relate to that really made me happy as someone who also lives some of them.
I'm really happy that this game was able to be made and will buy the bonus pack and I also can't wait to see more of the creator's content ^^.
Great to get more perspectives and developments with these characters :). Not much makes me laugh aloud, but a mention of king dedede and Glados being hot in their respective circumstances got me snorting. The first game and its sequel are so expertly refined and up to bat with humor (I'm sorry). The story flows just as smooth as the first time around, with properly placed flashbacks and callbacks to the past (and future). Butterfly 1&2 are such comforts in a weathering storm. These games are sweet and savory, like if soup tasted good with cream puffs. (That makes no sense??) The controversial topics of conversation and identity bring home some of the core themes of being comfortable in one's skin and kind to yourself, as the world changes, yet stays the same. I'm still holding out to wear Min's jacket one day so I can be half as cool n' confident. I'll be sure to follow any future projects if any arise, Soup related or not.
Seeing the characters again after a long time was such a delight! Akarsha has been my favorite character since the first game, and I love her story in this one! Not to mention very relatable too <3
One thing i very much adore is how the writing is just as fun as the first game is, the humor got me actually laughing out loud and the character interactions are natural as always! I love these gay girls a lot, thank you so much for making this game!!
wow! what a lovely surprise to have a sequel after so many years. the original story connected with me a lot and I love how this one has matured and deepened. amazing stuff!! and I can't believe I almost missed the after-credits scene!!
I fell off my chair in surprise when I saw this, playing the first game in year 9 I have only fond memories of it. This one's taken a risky step I actually think payed off.
Feel like 2 takes a lot more "controversial" topics (Min's entire arc *no spoilers*) but they all assist in building characters and tying in side characters that didn't mean all that much before. Really related to Noelle's bit specifically. Nice job once again.
Another great visual novel! You are talented. I love the lgbt theme. This and the first Butterfly Soup warmed my heart, and made me laugh at times. I hope you continue writing.
Absolutely wonderful sequel. Just as funny, relatable, heartbreaking, and excellently written as the original Butterfly Soup. Absolutely delighted to see an Akarsha and Noelle-focused story, their characters shone so well and the epilogue was SO funny and cute. In addition to being well-written and having really great dialogue and characters, both of these games are very well designed in a visual sense and are a pure delight to experience from start to finish. I also don't think I realized before that it takes place in 2009, which is the same year I was in 9th grade, so the nostalgia factor is very, very real. I also have memories of going to the park to film a dumb video for a project and bonding over Ryan Higa videos.
Both of these games are among the very top tier of visual novels I've ever played, and I play a lot of them. It's good shit. I kind of want to replay it right away. :)
this isn't rly an issue that the game dev can fix, it's a challenge with the downloading rather than the game files, but you might find more help at https://itch.io/board/10023/questions-support. If you have a vpn, turn it off. the server for your region might be processing a lot of requests, so try to download during weird hours or it might be reliability issue that you'll have to wait a couple days to get fixed.
you can also try clicking this button, check the box that says 'enable alternate download mode'. if none of this helps, i had a lot of google hits for 'itchio failed network error'. also there's a web port now so you dont need to download! https://brianna-lei.itch.io/butterfly-soup-2-webandroid-ports
The web port still needs to download the game. It’s just that it doesn’t download it persistently. And well, it can postpone downloading some things, primarily music such that the initial download is only half the the games size (yes, half the game sizes is just music)
holy cow girl, you're an amazing writer. Thank you so much for helping me pry my own stunted emotions from the onion of my heart (It's got layers, Donkey).
I wish I knew people like these, or if your games are any indication maybe even you, growing up.
You captured the pain SO....perfectly. I hope you captured the real happiness too, because I want to feel how I feel right now for the rest of my life.
brianna lei i love ur mind times infinity plus one.... thank u for sharing this story with us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
i just wanna take my time and say how much i adore this sequel. the first butterfly soup was my intro into gay girl gaming and visual novels as a whole. i remember being 15 and sneaking on the family computer late at night listening to a girls like girls playlist on 8tracks and playing this game. this game has created so many fond memories for me and playing the sequel made be go back to that feeling again, of being gay and looking for content to prove that maybe i do exist and theyre others like me. and im glad i found this game at the age as i did because yeah, theyre are others like me and that made young me really happy. i always find myself relating to the noelle and akarsha's parts the most because their stories just really resonates with me. this game is huge inspiration to me and i know a lot of other wouldnt hesitate to say the same. you do not miss ever, thank you for finishing this (but im mostly thankful to the AINI franchise LOLLLLL)
I really love this game, I've been waiting for this for such a long time. I really like the characters especially the plot, it was amazing and I definitely recommend playing it. If a genie granted me wishes, the first thing I'd say was to forget butterfly soup every month so I could play this over and over again. I enjoyed every single bit of the game, and LOVED the art. Thank you Brianna Lei for making this.
I just realized playing this game if you're having a hard time with trying to be efficient with all of your saves, you can go to page 9 and then you can click the arrows for infinity with infinite saves. I can't tell if this is a bug or not.
This was really sweet, the first game made me come to terms with being non-binary after an interaction I had with Brianna, and I appreciate the expanded desi representation.
I'm hoping you get to work on the other work you stated would be about a different set of people.
I found the first game when I was 11 years old, and it was exactly what I needed at the time. This game not only made me realize I was bisexual, it also made me feel comfortable in my sexuality. Now, almost 5 years later, I'm older than the main characters, and have been struggling with my sexuality again. This sequel is exactly what I needed right now. Opening the second game up, it made me tear up because it felt like I was revisiting old friends. Thank you so much for making these games, they truly have helped me with my identity.
Every topic covered here is handled incredibly well and I loved the expansion on Akarsha's character as well as the thoughtful exploration in relationships between parents and their kids. Its all very relatable and the game over all makes me feel like I'm indulging in age regression...
The ending really soured my overall experience. i feel like it was uncomftorably heavy handed and rushed. I think it would've been better for the reader to understand the overall themes themselves without the conclusion spelling it out for them but overall everything before the ending is so so good... I missed these characters so much ;(
playing this while being in taipei as a taiwanese american who grew up here, you had no idea what i meant to see it in this game meantto me T_T i feel so seen. thank you so much for making this game! love the trajectory we've been DYING to see since butterfly soup 1 finally realised. i smiled like a happy idiot the entire time i played it.
if u ever come here, please, let me buy you some boba and offer u my musical services.

It's incredible. I opened it, saw them, cried a lot, then laughed so much I couldn't talk, and really alarmed my partner.
