this game was absolutely stunning for so many reasons. it was hilarious, relatable, and just so much fun in general! i never wanted it to end, omg. this is one of my favorite games now, i highly suggest everyone checks it out. you won't be disappointed!!!!!!!!!!
So. Butterfly Soup. What a fantastic game. I’ll start with the characters since they’re what it’s all about and ramble from there. When you first meet each of the characters they appear as the normal likable high school teen types. You have the shy one, the tough one, the goofball and the strict one. Each enjoyable right away but as the story progresses the characters really end up being more like real people than the normal cardboard cutout high school stereotypes. Each have very realistic struggles that people battle with every day. Be it abuse, depression or social anxiety each character seems to really feel human in their struggles. By the end no one has truly solved their problems they’ve just made them a little less prominent in their life. Getting to play as each character also helps humanize them as you’re able get inside the mindset of each one and by the end seeing these characters legitimately happy together really puts a smile on your face. I could probably go on forever about how much I love the characters but we need to talk about other stuff. The art. The art is so perfect for a game like this. Not too cutesy but not too many hard edges that make the characters seem too serious. The designs are also great because not everyone looks like the perfect person. Each design is very natural but bold and memorable. The backgrounds also while not as focused on are really nice and pleasing to the eyes. The music by Miltata and Ketsa also sets the more chill atmosphere of the game extremely well and I have the songs on repeat. The humor is also a small but amazing addition. It had me actually laughing out loud which is rare for any game. And finally the writing and message of this beautiful story. Brianna Lei’s writing is absolutely amazing and like I mentioned when talking about the characters you really do feel for them and their troubles. The romance is also handled extremely well and doesn’t just say “HEY LOOK ITS LGBT LIKE US BECAUSE ITS GOT LGBT REP” There’s actual substance to the characters romantic feelings (with a hint of that nerdy LGBT community). And the message of actually taking time to develop yourself and not just being the person everyone else tells you to be. It has the be yourself message but in this game it really does work and isn’t some cliche. Butterfly Soup is a very inspiring game that made me feel all the emotions in the book but in the end I truly felt happy. Seeing the characters all together goofing off and them talking about how your life is yours really hit me hard. This game was something I truly loved and it along with it’s characters will always have a place in my heart for making me realize I’m my own person and no one can take that from me.
I'm honestly SO happy right now, I can't even really remember the last time I've felt this kind of warmth inside my heart. The characters all are really likeable (except the parents, for obvious reasons) and immensly well written. The art is just... argh, I don't even know how to descibe it. Let's just say it's incredibly beautiful and fitting the characters really well. I'd love to write more, but I'm literally sitting here sobbing out of happiness. Thanks for making this game, it's an absolute masterpiece <3

No matter how many times I played this I still love it because it's literally everything fun I wish I had experienced during my highschool days while at the same time it makes me miss highschool where I had to live life in a carefree manner whilst understand what the four are going through with having overbearing parents and that one friend who makes everything fun and chill. Man, I fucking love this game!
You could tell it was going to be good from the description, but somehow it manages to far surpass any expectations anyone could have. Really ingenious well made game. Best thing I've seen in a long time.

Its a really nice story though I'm really disappointed that there's so much more about the characters and backgrounds that could be delved more into.
Especially Noelle and her relationship with her mother, I would have loved to see the resolution to it, be it her leaving or the mom gaining a conscience.
The relationship between all four girls was fantastic and I laughed at every stupid thing they said. (Especially Akarsha, she's my favorite idiot)

the developer mentioned that the final game was supposed to be much longer but they split it in half so they could release it sooner, since the development was already taking a long time. i heard a sequel presumably containing the second half of the game is in the works, so maybe we'll see more background info n stuff there.

I usually can't even read visual novels because I find them boring. This was THE BEST one I've ever seen, it made me laugh so much, it made me cry, it had it all. Thank you so much for this, I needed it.
This was, honestly, one of the best games I have ever played. The characters all felt so real and relatable, and I fell in love with them all so quickly! The only thing more I could ask for would possibly be a second game with more Chryssa and her ridiculous puns. Seriously though, thank you, this was amazing!
This game made me cry. Many times. Thank you, sincerely, Brianna Lei, for making a game that I, as well as so many others. could connect to and love. Baseball and girls are two of my very favorite things. And it was insane how much I could relate to Diya and Min (my girlfriend and I are on the same team, she pitches and I catch. We're honestly like Diya and Min but if their personalities were swapped haha). I fell in love as soon as I saw the gun that fired out a gun that shot a knife honestly. But for anyone trying to figure out if they want to play this game or not: play it. It tells an incredibly well planned story about Asian-American gay girls in high school, trying to find their way and love themselves in a very lighthearted way. The characters are all lovable and every line of dialogue gives off so much personality and are in no way out of place. The art is simply amazing and the backgrounds are to die for. This is a cute, short heartwarming game to play if you are ever looking for a pick me up, or some laughs.
